tax free shopping

There are 17 states offering tax free this year, and 13 begin theirs this weekend to appeal to the back-to-school crowd. I look forward to this all year long.  Time to replinish school supplies, go through my kids closets and dressers to see what fits and doesn’t fit them. Then purchase new clothing and possibly stock up on the next size up if the deals are good!

The 13 states that are offering tax free right now are:

Florida: August 7-16 – Clothing, footwear, and certain accessories selling for $100 or less per item, on certain school supplies selling for $15 or less per item, and on the first $750 of the sales price for computers and certain computer-related accessories when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use.

Iowa: August 7-8 – Clothing or footwear having a selling price less than $100.00.

Louisiana: August 7-8: exemption from state sales tax on the first $2,500 of the purchase price of most individual items of tangible personal property for non-business use.

Maryland: August 9-15 – Apparel and footwear $100 or less, per item.

Mississippi: Sept. 4-6 – Items included are firearms, ammo, and hunting supplies.

Missouri: August 7-9 – Items included are clothing, school supplies, computers.

New Mexico: August 7-9 – Clothing or shoes must be priced at less than $100 per unit. The price limit for desktop, laptop, tablets or notebook computers is $1,000, and for related computer hardware it is $500.

Ohio: August 7-9 –  Clothing priced at $75 per item or less and school supplies priced at $20 per item or less.

Oklahoma: August 7-9 – Footwear and clothing that are sold for less than $100 during the holiday.

South Carolina: August 7-9 – clothing accessories (e.g., hats, scarves, hosiery, and handbags), footwear, school supplies (e.g., pens, pencils, paper, binders, notebooks, books, book bags, lunchboxes, and calculators), computers, printers and printer supplies, computer software, and bath wash clothes, blankets, bed spreads, bed linens, sheet sets, comforter sets, bath towels, shower curtains, bath rugs and mats, pillows, and pillow cases.

Tennessee: August 7-9 – Clothing:  $100 or Less, school supplies:  $100 or Less and computers:  $1,500 or Les

Texas: August 7-9 – Clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100.

If you stack the no sales tax and either clearance or sales you can save a decent amount of money. Do not forget the consignment stores or thrift stores for back to school clothing shopping either for even more money saving deals!
