Our family loves to go camping. We go several times a year. This year we decided to go camping for 8 days during Thanksgiving. Even our campsite and our camper has water hookup I am still picky about using it so I bring our own water for drinking and to cook with. As you can imagine we go through a lot of water in 8 days. Even though the campsite offers recycling I decided to recycle differently by keeping some of the used water jugs. Sure my husband was not happy about all these water jugs piled up under our camper but I just couldn’t resist.
I was hoarding these water jugs so that my kids and I could use them in a craft. I wanted to make a snowman family using these jugs. Each one of us would have a water jug to decorate and when we were done they would light up!
Materials:
Empty and dry clear water jug
First, make sure your water jug is empty and dried out. Do this by keeping the top off and turning it upside down for at least a day. Next, decorate (the opposite side of the water jug that has the handle) your snowman with Sharpie Markers. ** Tip if you do make a mistake with the markers you can use nail polish remover on a cotton ball and wipe off the marker and start over. Using an X-Acto knife cut a large square at the bottom back side (opposite side of the snowman’s face) of the water jug. Finally, once you find a place to display it add your Christmas lights inside the back opening of the water jug and enjoy!
I love how our snowman family turned out. All of us decorated our own except for the baby (I decorated his). Then I lined them up with my husband and I first and then the birth order of our kids on a shelf by our front door so when anyone who comes in our home can enjoy them. Since doing so I have had many compliments. They are best enjoyed at night when the lights are off because they glow through the jug and the snowman faces are bright and clear! Have you recycled anything this year and used them in a Christmas craft? If so I would love to hear all about it!
